Harris Tweed items hand crafted in Scotland
Welcome to House of Tweed - a land of handmade Harris Tweed cushions, bags, home accessories and other lovingly made tweedy items.
My name is Aga Hamilton. I am a textile artist working from my cosy home studio in the beautiful city of Inverness, capital of the Scottish Highlands.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always enjoyed drawing, painting or scribbling. My dad was a very talented tailor and I grew up surrounded by sewing machines, tailor’s dummies and irons. I have fond memories of him with a sewing tape around his neck, little thimble on his finger and lots of thread bits on his jumper. I would like to think that I’ve been blessed with some of his “sewing genes”. Even today he remains an inspiration and often gives me tips on my work.
I made my first few cushions in 2016 for a craft fair and the rest, as they say, is history.
My main medium is Harris Tweed and I love its stunning array of colours, quality and durability. It is soft, tactile, breathable and warm and of course hand woven in Scotland on the beautiful island of Harris. I love the ethos behind this amazing fabric.
I constantly experiment with different designs and my head is always whirring with new ideas so you are likely to see new creations and designs popping up all the time.
Even though I sketch out my designs before I sew them, I love to let each project develop and come to life as it is being created. Wildlife often features in my designs both flora and fauna.
